In one of our previous posts, we reported that there were probably tree robbers on one of our properties, namely Finca Curré.
Now there is good news:
More deforested Nispero trees were found on a neighboring property. The wood was hauled by mules and horses, so Manuel from the ACBTC and three police officers were able to follow a trail – and even catch people transporting wood. The trail led them to the house where the felled wood was stored. There were permits to cut down nispero trees, but these were issued for another finca. Three people were arrested. The police suspect a larger trafficking ring. The MINAET(Costa Rican Ministry of the Environment) is to fly a drone over the area for further safety measures.
Let’s hope for the best!
