Our“Monte Alto” project is not just about the pure reforestation of former cattle pastures – another activity in this project is the environmental education programmes that our local partner organizations carry out: For example, planting trees with schoolchildren from the region. This year, the Fundación Pro Reserva Natural Monte Alto with the Pilangosta school and some neighbors from the Hojancha community and the Hojancha-Nandayure biological corridor – an association of organizations working to connect forests in the region – celebrated Arbor Day. Motivational and group dynamic games were played throughout the morning and 70 tree seedlings were planted at the end. A joint lunch rounded off the activity. The environmental education measures are an important addition to the reforestation project in Monte Alto. A project can only have a long-term effect if the local population is made aware of the problems and ecological relationships of the tree and animal populations in their surroundings.
