Around 25 years ago, Tropca Verde acquired the Finca Curré, a 70-hectare primary forest property in the coastal region of Baja Talamanca, thus saving it from immediate deforestation. In 2005, the finca was extended by a further 15 hectares. However, the pressure from land developers who want to build new settlements there is increasing, so our partners and local neighbors have made a new attempt to involve more neighbors in the “Los Guardianes” neighbourhood cooperation.
As a result, the neighborhood cooperation “Los Guardianes Punta Uva -Cocles” has now come one step closer to its goal. In response to the increasing commercial pressure on the natural areas in the region, a memorandum of understanding was formulated and signed by the first parties, including Tropica Verde.
The declaration serves to monitor the natural areas and strengthen connectivity in the face of the threat posed by poachers. The cooperation aims to develop joint utilization concepts that preserve the biological corridor and includes a mutual right of first refusal in the event of a planned sale.
We hope to be able to win over even more neighbors.
