For the second time, the pupils of IGS Nordend have organized a charity run to support TROPICA VERDE in the reforestation of Costa Rica. A total of €3800 was raised for the Monte Alto nature reserve!

The donation was presented to our chairman Michael Ott by the pupils during the lunch break in front of the canteen as part of the IGS Nordend environmental days. In the background, interviews with pupils from Monte Alto were shown in a video to give the young people an idea of who benefits from their donation and what their help is doing on the ground. If you also want to know what environmental education in Costa Rica is achieving and what positive effects the project is having on the surrounding population, then watch the video.

The reforestation in Monte Alto not only promotes the water cycle and the climate, but also creates biologically valuable connecting corridors for native animals such as the small anteater. The so-called tamandua likes to move around in trees, among other things, and travels long distances in search of a suitable partner, which are cut off by the pasture grass, but also by roads and agriculture.

With this donation, IGS Nordend is pursuing its goal of CO2 neutrality. In 2014, their generous donation of €6,000 was used to purchase one hectare of new land adjacent to the reserve. The contract for this plot of land is now ready to be signed so that this year’s donation can be used to reforest the new area.
