…and how it came about!
Christine had the wonderful idea of financially supporting the activities of Tropica Verde e.V. in Costa Rica by selling her delicious homemade jam.
With every jar of jam sold, buyers can support the protection of the rainforest and enjoy this delicious jam at the same time.
Here she tells your story!
Let’s go back in time to where it all began 20 years ago.
Malaysia had been my adopted home for many years, its pristine jungles, culture and the hospitality of the people fascinated me from day one. I thought how privileged I was to live and work in such a place! During my countless trips to Sumatra, however, I also got to see the dark side of paradise, namely the effects of the large-scale clearing of Asia’s original rainforests, and later felt them first-hand. The destruction had reached unimaginable proportions. I felt an incredible sadness and helplessness. And finally, the smog caused by slash-and-burn agriculture in Sumatra became so unbearable at my workplace that after many years I decided to leave the country I had grown so fond of… with a heavy heart. But I never let go of the thought: “One day I will actively campaign for the protection of the rainforests! ”
As chance would have it, 3 years ago I met José Pablo in Bijagual during a weekend seminar, who I perceived as the driving force behind a project that I found extraordinary: Also known as ASOGUABO. It was there that the connection to Tropica Verde finally came about.
Every jar of jam supports Tropica Verde rainforest projects
In addition, our move to a rural finca in Andalusia 4 years ago was to offer unimagined possibilities. I quickly realized that I could no longer cope with the huge quantities of fruit from our old trees, no matter how much I had preserved, frozen, dried or baked. At first, the jams delighted many friends, acquaintances and family. Not long afterwards, I started selling them at my foreign language school EOI in Chiclana de la Frontera, Spain. The response was surprisingly positive, as the exceptionally fruity taste of the jams quickly won everyone over and so my heart project and vision took off. The step of setting up a professional jam production suddenly seemed very realistic to me.
It became increasingly clear to me that there was an opportunity here that I wanted to seize. The idea of “jam with an impact for you, for the rainforest” was born. As Renatura Verde, I want to inspire people to take a self-critical look at their consumption. I see the project as a bridge between sustainable consumption and global responsibility.
I practice and experiment exclusively with biodynamic farming methods and have recently been working with existing small producers and organic farmers in our region, constantly seeking allies in local environmental groups and associations. I would like to focus more on the relevance of organic farmers for climate protection and give them an additional voice.
An important building block for the future will therefore not only be the establishment of production and distribution under ethically fair conditions, but also the improvement of the project’s media presence, in particular the creation of a website.
It is particularly important to me to make the effects of our consumer behavior on the rainforest understandable and tangible, but also to show the solutions that are not far away for more sustainable consumption.
It fills me with great pride and gratitude to be able to work with Tropica Verde to protect the rainforest. They stand by my side with perseverance, inspiration and motivation. It goes without saying that the profits from my sales should flow into their projects.
On Facebook page of Renatura Verde and on Instagram there are already some posts that give an insight into my activities on site. Maybe you can take a look there.
