The Ecodesi project promotes the protection of biodiversity in the municipality of Villarreal by recovering seeds from the region. At the same time, this improves the quality of life of the Guanacaste inhabitants and preserves their culture and traditions.
This year, too, a number of measures are on the agenda. For example, a tree nursery for creole seeds, trees and plants for agricultural purposes is to be set up and space provided for environmental education activities. Senior citizens hold workshops and seminars on the subject of “Creole seeds and their cultivation”. Together with schoolchildren, young people, students and senior citizens, traditional activities relating to local seeds are also supported. The reforestation of degraded areas with plants and Creole trees is also to be realized through the project.
