Presentation at the 2023 Annual General Meeting

Tropica Verde further strengthens environmental education

In 2022, we started to set up an environmental education network in Costa Rica. Since then, this very successful program has enabled a continuous exchange on methods and content of teaching topics. With “Teach the Teacher” concepts in teacher workshops, we also multiply the knowledge for teachers. Since 2025, the concept has even reached into the indigenous areas of the Talamanca, and this is greatly appreciated by groups that are normally difficult to access.

Ariana Oporto-McCarthy takes over as Head of Networking

In March 2026, Ariana Oporto-McCarthy, a marine biologist and experienced educator in environmental education, took over responsibility for environmental and network education in the Caribbean region.

She is thus continuing the successful work of her predecessors Karla Murillo and Monica Chinchilla.

Ariana has been working as an environmental educator for Tropica Verde since the beginning of 2024 ( >> click here for the interview with Ariana) and knows the project work very well. Her place of residence near the small town of Bribri gives her ideal options for expanding our environmental education in the indigenous areas, which she already supervised independently in 2025.

We are delighted to have found a committed young biologist in Ariana for this responsible position and wish her a good start in this new role.
