Protecting nature means not eating pineapples!

“Protecting nature means no more pineapples,” reported our partner Ulíses Aleman in the Lapa Verde region. The Maquenque conservation area in Lapa Verde is a breeding ground for the soldier macaw and is still threatened by the expansion of large pineapple plantations. Already 90% of its habitat has been destroyed and forest loss is continuing. But it’s not just the soldier macaw that is affected – the pesticides and chemicals used on the planats also have a negative impact on humans and other animals. For example, workers on the plantations regularly come into contact with the poison and fall ill. Animals living on the ground, such as the anteater, or fish in the nearby Rio Cuarto river are also affected. In addition, small farmers are being driven out by large farmers, thus destroying their livelihoods.

Our partner Ulíses Aleman carries out regular patrols on site. The aim is to monitor the protected area and protect it from illegal logging. He urgently needs a new quad bike for this! And now it’s up to you. You can support the project directly on site and save people and animals by making an earmarked donation, stating the topic “species protection” and the keyword “Quad”. You can find a detailed report on our long-term project in Lapa Verde here.

Thank you for your support!
