Dear rainforest enthusiasts,
We, Mischa Kneifel and Rasmus Rees, recent high school graduates, have been at Finca One World (cooperation partner of Tropica Verde) in Puerto Viejo de la Talamanca, Costa Rica, for 7 days now. For the next 9 months I will be volunteering here in cooperation with Tropica Verde and providing you with live posts directly from the rainforest.
We are here to get to know a completely different culture and language and to make our own contribution to world peace through tangible nature conservation. In addition to the environmental protection project “Los Guardianes”, which we will report on in a few later posts, there are many tasks on the biologically sustainable farm that pose a particular challenge for us city dwellers. This includes being woken up in the middle of the night by the loudest cockerel in the northern hemisphere or night-time encounters with not-so-small animals. The absolute highlight is the biodiversity and the hospitality of the Ticos.
With a view of the picturesque Caribbean beaches and blue butterflies, we already know that we have made the right decision with our stay.
