A successful weekend! Tropica Verde was for the Great Soldier’s Macaw at the Green Stock Exchange in Frankfurt
The protection of the greater soldier macaw, a species of parrot from Central America, is particularly important to us in our work in Costa Rica. The colorful bird is an “umbrella species”, i.e. an indicator of an intact ecosystem. However, the destruction of the rainforest in favor of the timber industry and monocultural pineapple cultivation means that its habitat is severely endangered. This is why Tropica Verde has been working with partners from Costa Rica for over 20 years to protect the macaw’s habitat.
Tropica Verde once again provided information about the importance of rainforest protection and current projects at this year’s Green Exchange in the Palmengarten.
The Green Exchange, organized by BioFrankfurt e.V., offers nature conservation organizations that are committed to the protection and preservation of biodiversity in Frankfurt and elsewhere a stage to present themselves and took place this year from 15 to 17 March under the motto “Naturally Frankfurt! Discover habitats – protect diversity” at the Palmengarten Frankfurt.
Our team of volunteers informed numerous interested people about our projects and the Great Soldier’s Macaw through playful learning. Visitors were able to find out exciting information about the life and endangerment of the great white macaw with our soldier macaw quiz memory.
In addition, visitors could spin the wheel of fortune for a small donation to benefit our projects and win an attractive prize. Thanks to our partners, such as the Tropica Kriftel rarity nursery, the grammgenau unpackaged store in Bockenheim and Fairtrade Germany, we had a wide range of prizes available. For a small donation, our creative visitors could also design their own Tropica Verde buttons on the button machine.
