The often inconspicuous fungi in particular have surprising survival strategies. Fungi are neither plants nor animals - and in the tropics there are still countless species that have never been described before. It is precisely there, in the Costa Rican rainforest, that Prof. Dr. Meike Piepenbring has been conducting research for decades.
