A breakthrough has just been achieved in the negotiations on the future financing system at the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Rome. Fittingly, at the next event DIAG will once again turn its attention to Costa Rica - a country whose high international reputation is based above all on its exemplary commitment to climate and nature conservation. With an estimated 5% share of the planet's biodiversity in an area that covers only 0.03% of the Earth's land surface, the country is one of the world's biodiversity hot spots. It is therefore expected to receive additional international support for the conservation of its treasure in the coming years. <\/p>\n

Costa Rica has never lacked support from abroad, and especially from Germany. Scientists, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, tourism experts and, last but not least, many volunteer conservationists: they have all contributed in their own way to raising awareness of the country's extraordinary biodiversity and scenic beauty to a level that is unparalleled in Latin America. <\/p>\n

Among those who have rendered outstanding services to Costa Rica's image as a natural paradise, Ina Knobloch<\/strong> is one of the foremost. One of her trademarks is that she has combined the various roles - from botanist with a doctorate to nature-loving media professional to passionate nature lobbyist - in one person. She became passionate about the land around four decades ago and has since produced several films and written numerous books and essays. In the 1990s, she also provided the decisive impetus for the founding of the nature conservation organization Tropica Verde. She has received several awards for her commitment. <\/p>\n

Last year, Ina Knobloch published another book with National Geographic Verlag, which - as can be seen from the title \"My Costa Rica. 40 years working for the jungle<\/em>\" - is both a retrospective of her work and a declaration of love for the country. We are delighted that the author has agreed to present this work and thus also a significant part of her life story, accompanied by a colorful array of her own animal, plant and landscape photographs, in her lecture series. <\/p>\n
