Environmental education was the No. 1 focus - but the expansion of reserves and our reforestations are also going very well. But one thing at a time...  <br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:image --><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_text_1 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module preset--module--divi-text--default\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><h2>Highlights from our 2024 rainforest conservation projects<\/h2>\n<p>We are now working with <strong>10 organizations and individuals<\/strong> who focus on environmental education. <strong>For the first time<\/strong>, we have also succeeded in <strong>involving<\/strong> the <strong>indigenous population of Bribri and the surrounding area<\/strong>. Teachers and pupils are enthusiastic about the Tropica Verde offer. And all of this, of course, in the spirit of education for sustainable development, as Adela from ECODESI beautifully describes here. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_column_4 et_pb_column et_pb_column_1_2 et-last-child et_block_column et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_3 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module preset--module--divi-text--default\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><p>We were also able to complete the first <strong>\u201cEnvironmental Education Handbook\u201d<\/strong> for Costa Rican teachers in November. Karla Murillo, who has been working with us for many years and is now employed by the University of Costa Rica as a national teacher, has put all her knowledge into this manual, which we are<strong> now<\/strong> making<strong> available<\/strong> to<strong> Costa Rican schools<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_row_3 et_pb_row et_block_row\"><div class=\"et_pb_column_5 et_pb_column et_pb_column_4_4 et-last-child et_block_column et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_4 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module preset--module--divi-text--default\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><h2>Working together for environmental protection: networking in full swing<\/h2>\n<p>In terms of project work, we have <strong>gained two like-minded project partners<\/strong> in the Dutch \u201cStichting Oasebos\u201d and the German \u201cCordes &amp; Graefe Stiftung\u201d, with whom we <strong>would like to realize a new large conservation reserve in the north of Costa Rica<\/strong>. A first milestone is about to be reached: Adjacent to our \u201cLapa Verde\u201d reserve and the neighboring Oasebos reserves, we will be able to designate a forest reserve covering over 300 hectares as early as 2025. Our newest piece of the mosaic is called \u201cReserva Danta\u201d and is named after the rare tapir that makes its home here. The aim is to expand this protected area to around 600 hectares over the next few years in order to establish an important block against the ever-expanding, pesticide-contaminated pineapple plantations. Vamos!    <\/p>\n<p>We also had the <strong>3rd workshop with all our partners and organizations<\/strong> from 6-8 December, this time in the Talamanca region in the southern Caribbean. It was again a great success with a lot of joy and creativity from all participants. This time we had almost 20 participants at the network meeting, more than ever before.    <strong>The Tropica Verde family is growing!!!  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_image_3 et_pb_image et_pb_module et_block_module\"><span class=\"et_pb_image_wrap\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tropica-verde.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Gruppenfoto-2-Workshop-\u00a9Stefan-Rother.jpg\" width=\"2291\" height=\"1761\" class=\"wp-image-245921\" title=\"Grupo grandioso! At least for me! For my project trip at the end of 2024, I packed a brand new drone to document the <strong>progress of our latest reforestations<\/strong> in <a href=\"https:\/\/tropica-verde.de\/en\/projekte\/monte-alto\/\">Monte Alto<\/a> (right &amp; below) and in the <a href=\"https:\/\/tropica-verde.de\/en\/projekte\/reserva-kinkajou\/\">Reserva Kinkajou<\/a> (left). And it was really moving to see from above what beautiful and species-rich young forests have emerged<strong> in 5 years <\/strong>. But<strong> we are very satisfied<\/strong>. Then find out here how you can effectively protect the climate with Tropica Verde. <\/h3>\n<p>Very important: In order to protect the climate, the top priority should be to avoid emissions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In concrete terms, this means, among other things:  <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turn the heaters down a few degrees<\/li>\n<li>Energy-efficient renovation of houses<\/li>\n<li>Remove electrical appliances from standby<\/li>\n<li>only eat meat occasionally<\/li>\n<li>Use more bicycles or public transport and walk<\/li>\n<li>much more!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Unfortunately, some climate-damaging actions cannot be prevented. If you want to travel to Costa Rica, for example, a flight is essential. This is where a donation to Tropica Verde comes into play, because with your donation or membership you are making a targeted contribution to binding <span>CO\u2082<\/span>, protecting the climate and promoting education.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>To protect our climate, we ask you to do <em>both<\/em>:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Donate<\/strong> to <strong>rainforest conservation and<\/strong> <strong>save<\/strong> <strong>greenhouse gas emissions<\/strong> wherever possible <strong>!<\/strong> Further tips on climate and rainforest-friendly behavior can be obtained from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nabu.de\/natur-und-landschaft\/waelder\/18882.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NABU<\/a>, for example.<\/p>\n<p>We would like to point out at this point that Tropica Verde <u>does not<\/u> advertise and sell classic<sub>CO2<\/sub> compensation. <span>CO\u2082<\/span> offsetting is often cited by companies as a green measure to improve their image. Many factors need to be considered when it comes to <span>CO\u2082<\/span> compensation. <span>CO\u2082<\/span> compensation is still a hotly debated topic.
