On 4 November 2015, we received the 1st prize in the “International Partnerships” category<\/a> for our intercultural education project in Monte Alto in beautiful L\u00fcbeck. Background: Tropica Verde has been supporting the Costa Rican association “Fundaci\u00f3n Monte Alto” for over 20 years. The aim is to reverse the negative effects of grazing areas on former rainforest land. The ecosystem has already partially regenerated, the Nosara River is once again carrying sufficient water and the people in the region are once again supplied with water(more on the project<\/a>). The positive effects are very pleasing, but there is of course still more to do. We need more space to expand the protected area, plant more trees and continue the environmental education measures. And now!<\/p>\n There is currently an orange boom in the region around Monte Alto. The last plot we had in mind was snatched from under our noses by an orange farmer – he paid more money. We must counteract such developments. However, this will only work if we buy more land together with the Fundaci\u00f3n Monte Alto and place it under protection. Every year, this category recognizes activities that raise awareness of global responsibility at a local level and at the same time implement concrete partnership-based action. Thanks to Netzwerk21 for this great prize!<\/p>\n
We already have our sights set on a new area: 8.4 hectares <\/strong>to expand the protected area<\/strong>. We need around 47,000 euros<\/strong> for this. Thanks to the price tag from the Netzwerk21 congress, we already have 2,000 euros more for the purchase of our new area. It may only be a small sum, but it’s a good start!<\/p>\nHelp us to collect even more and set further milestones together<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n
